A Primer on Internet Freebies
The Internet has always been known as the resource for great downloads and finds. We all go online in case we need to research or get pictures, information, and the like. But the Internet has changed drastically in the past couple of years in terms of providing freebies to its users.
In the beginning when there were a few Internet users, most website owners had to think of ways on how to encourage their visitors to visit their websites more regularly. In those days, the Internet was a prime medium of communication, and so most Internet users were not as fond of using the Internet.
Most of the dot com companies had to resort to giving away free items in order to entice Internet users to visit their website more regularly. For instance there was free internet access provided by AOL as well as high speed internet connection provided by Netzero. Indeed there was a lot of freebies being given away, and that Internet users at that time were pampered too much, mainly because websites needed to have good traffic to stay in business.
However the problem began when Internet users began to increase in numbers, as most of these users began to clamor for freebies. Naturally these websites could not afford to give out freebies to a great number of individuals. Additionally it signaled the rise of the Internet as the preferred medium among many households. Thus not all websites were able to stay in business what with the cost it takes to provide freebies to their customers, particularly since it takes maintenance costs for the server, and the like.
While most of their contemporaries have faded into oblivion, some websites still are in existence, providing freebies like screensavers, graphics, multimedia freebies, clip art, travel coupons, and the like.
